Photo of me getting my blood pressure & pulse being checked. I was a bit excited so my pulse was a bit elevated, but other than that, it was ok.

About a month & a half after I came home from RadioCat, I started throwing up more than normal. It was a little early to schedule an exam, to check thyroid levels / etc., but my human, the RadioCat vet(s), & local doctors decided to give me a physical & do a full panel of labs. A full panel takes a little extra blood & costs a bit more, but doing one can catch a lot of problems early.

The results of the blood work, 4-22-00 or so, indicated that my kidneys were beginning to fail. Dr. Sue told my human that hyperthyroidism sometimes masks kidney and/or other problems. She put me on a special diet, told my human to put extra water in my food, and scheduled an appointment for the teaching hospital I'm now at. The goal was to see if there were any experimental / etc. programs that might help extend my life. My human wanted to know if the people options of dialysis &/or kidney transplants could work for me and other cats as well.

From the appointment today, 5-17-00, my human learned a kidney transplant is the preferred way to treat renal failure in cats, assuming they are otherwise healthy.
